the portal

a 5-week autumn writing immersion into the dark, the wild + the unknown.

THERE IS A DOORWAY IN AUTUMN.

You can feel it.

The light changes.
The trees release their leaves.
The veil thins.
We pull our sweaters from the backs of closets and begin making our way inside.

Autumn has always felt like an invitation to slow down, get quiet and listen.

There are things we can hear in the dark that we can't hear in all that summer light.

This autumn, we're going inward.

ENTER THE PORTAL.

For five Wednesday evenings, we'll gather by candlelight to write.

We'll begin with meditation and somatic practice.

We'll read poems, tell old stories, watch films, pull cards, follow strange little threads and listen for what wants to come through.

We'll spend time with Skeleton Woman.

We'll wander into Women Who Run With the Wolves.

We'll talk about the witch wound and the parts of ourselves we've learned to hide.

We'll write about death—not only the big death, but all the little deaths required of us in a lifetime.

The selves we outgrow.

The things we lose.

The leaves we finally let fall.

And the strange, miraculous fact that life keeps coming back.

Your October Curriculum…

Sure, this is a writing class.

But it’s also a devotion. A meditation. A turning inward.

And the Portal does not close when we shut down Zoom

In true Poetry Apothecary style, I’ll send you off each week with a poetic prescription.

WE'LL WRITE OUR WAY THROUGH:

THE DESCENT
Slowing down. Turning inward. Crossing the threshold.

THE WILD
Instinct. Appetite. The untamed self. Women Who Run With the Wolves.

THE WITCH
The witch wound. Being seen. The voices we've silenced to stay safe or good or liked.

THE BONES
Skeleton Woman. Death, grief, endings and what remains when everything unnecessary falls away.

THE RETURN
Rebirth. The dark as fertile ground. What we're carrying with us into winter.

MEET ME AT THE THRESHOLD.

Come get a little strange.

Come listen to the bones.

Come remember the parts of yourself you've buried.

Come find out what the dark has been trying to tell you.

Here's what's included:

5 live Wednesday gatherings
Meditation, somatic writing, poetry, storytelling, conversation + lots of time to actually write.

Weekly poetic prescriptions
Little rituals and field assignments to take the work off the page and into your life.

Poetry + cinema + old stories

We'll gather inspiration from writers, films, myths, fairy tales and the strange wisdom of autumn itself.

A cozy little circle of humans

Bring your tea. Wear the giant sweater. Light a candle.

No writing experience required.

You don't even have to call yourself a poet.

Here's when we’ll meet:

We will meet on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm central

October 7th
October 14th
October 21st
October 28th
November 4th

Online via Zoom

Autumn at the Apothecary Bundle

In my opinion, autumn is the most abundant season for writing. The crisp air, the cool breeze, the smell of leaves stamping the pavement, the moody storms and rustling branches dancing as they release their year’s adornment.

The football games and back to school feelings, the new books and fresh journals. The quilted hills and amber tones, crackling vinyl, red and orange. The season of the witch and the thinning veil between heaven and earth.

The closeness we feel, but can’t quite explain, with those who have come before us. Their whispers of wisdom, if we only lean in and listen. It’s a season sparking with possibilities, urging us to slow down, to take it in, to become the poets of our own lives.

write with us all autumn long

This is why I’ve created an in-road for you to join us and write for the entirety of the season. Join one 5 week immersion, or join both, for a bundled price. Payment plans are available. Questions? Just email me at hello@thepoetryapothecary.org

  • Working with Dana 1:1 helped me move through some of my darkest emotional seasons with more compassion and clarity.

Her presence is grounding, and her guidance helped me remember that joy can exist even in the midst of pain. Every session left me more connected to myself and more empowered to face my life with love and strength.”

    - Former client from Seattle, WA

  • Dana leads heart-first and encourages others to do the same.

She reminds you to believe in yourself, that your voice matters, that YOU matter. Beautiful transformations occur when you come home to yourself and Dana has been instrumental in helping me find my way back home, to show up authentically, to be vulnerable, and to allow others to see me...the real me, broken pieces and all.

    -Crystal from Illinois

  • “I’m becoming the version of myself I always hoped to be.

Dana’s 1:1 coaching awakened a creative fire in me that I didn’t know I had. Her way of seeing and reflecting life made creativity feel not just possible, but essential. I show up for myself in a completely different way now—more trusting, more open, and more capable of turning even my struggles into meaningful, inspired expression.”

    - Former Client from Olympia, WA

  • The songwriting workshop was so expansive.

It felt like such a safe space to reignite my creativity. I was personally so blown away by the meditations and left feeling very inspired. I highly, highly recommend Dana, she was absolutely fantastic I’ll definitely be joining another class in the future.

    - Stephanie Z., Chicago

  • I had such a good time at the songwriting workshop!

I was nervous to be in such an intimate space but Dana was so wonderful. She guided us through a meditation first which personally helped me feel so comfortable! I loved meeting everyone and hearing the poems/songs they created. I will definitely be joining more workshops led by Dana!
