dead poets society
a 5-week September writing immersion for people who want to suck the marrow out of life.
CARPE DIEM, POET.
There is a moment in Dead Poets Society when the students are reminded that their lives will not last forever.
The brevity and fragility of our lives is not to be seen as a threat, but rather as an invitation seize the day, an invitation to make your life extraordinary — even amidst what may seem ordinary.
What if we actually said yes to the invitation?
What if instead of standing on the sidelines analyzing our lives, we entered into them?
What if we collected images, memories and moments like treasures?
Made some glorious, messy mistakes…and wrote it all down.
“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.
But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
-dead poets society
This September, we're sharpening our pencils and joining the society.
Each Wednesday evening in September, we’ll gather as members of the Dead Poets Society.
This isn’t your classic academic poetry class.
Far from it.
Instead, we’ll listen to the whispers of those who have come before us…
You’ll learn how to bypass your mind and get into your body.
This is where everything changes.
Your writing comes to life — and so do you.
And maybe most importantly—we'll practice living in a way that gives us something worth writing about.
But the Society doesn't end when we close Zoom.
Each week, I'll send you back into your actual life with a poetic prescription.
CARPE DIEM
Come write with us.
Come make your life your greatest source material.
Come tell the truth.
Live the poetry.
Poetry is happening in the wet leaves stuck to the sidewalk. In the person you shouldn't have fallen in love with. In the song blasting through the car with the windows down. In the terrible decision that made a great story. In the ache in your chest you haven't quite found language for yet.
The best poems hang out where life is.
Think of this immersion like a curriculum for leaning fully into life, sucking the marrow out of it!
Here's what's included:
5 live Wednesday gatherings
Somatic writing, poetry, conversation + lots of time to actually write.
Weekly poetic prescriptions
Little field assignments to get you out into your life and give you something worth writing about.
Fellow students of life
A room full of humans choosing to live—and write—a little more boldly.
No writing experience required.
You don't even have to call yourself a poet.
Here's when we’ll meet:
We will meet on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm central
September 2nd
September 9th
September 16th
September 23rd
September 30th
Online via Zoom
Autumn at the Apothecary Bundle
In my opinion, autumn is the most abundant season for writing. The crisp air, the cool breeze, the smell of leaves stamping the pavement, the moody storms and rustling branches dancing as they release their year’s adornment.
The football games and back to school feelings, the new books and fresh journals. The quilted hills and amber tones, crackling vinyl, red and orange. The season of the witch and the thinning veil between heaven and earth.
The closeness we feel, but can’t quite explain, with those who have come before us. Their whispers of wisdom, if we only lean in and listen. It’s a season sparking with possibilities, urging us to slow down, to take it in, to become the poets of our own lives.
write with us all autumn long
This is why I’ve created an in-road for you to join us and write for the entirety of the season. Join one 5 week immersion, or join both, for a bundled price. Payment plans are available. Questions? Just email me at hello@thepoetryapothecary.org
Payment plans available for each option.
